With some more time on our hands and with Spring just around the corner, it is a great opportunity to get started on a DIY Aquaria Project. Whether you have a small tank with one fish or multiple large aquariums set-up in your home, there is a DIY project suitable for you!
1. Brine Shrimp Hatching
You can now hatch your very own brine shrimp from home with our DIY Brine Shrimp Hatchery Kit. Just add your own plastic water bottle of choice and the kit includes everything else you will need to hatch the brine shrimp eggs. In addition, this kit is a professional and simple device that is conveniently easy to use. It is also reusable, very durable and easy to assemble. Why not give it a go as your next DIY Aquaria Project? Find out more and shop the kit here.
2. Culture your own Live Algae (Phyto)
Phytoplankton or algae is the main food source for plankton including; copepods, daphnia, amphipods and more. Even corals feed on phytoplankton and it is, therefore, an important element to have in your tank. With our Live Algae Starter Kits, you can culture your own phytoplankton from home. Choose between a variety of marine and freshwater alga’s that we have available. If you are unsure of which strain of algae is most suitable for you, you can read all about the different strains in our Live Algae Info Sheet or contact us for more information. Buy Marine Algae Culture Kits Here or buy Freshwater Algae Culture Kits Here.
3. Set-Up your Own Home Culture System
This is by far the biggest DIY project out of the five listed. However, this project is also the most rewarding. By setting up your own Home Culture System Kit, you will essentially never have to purchase any live foods ever again. Choose between Saltwater Copepods or Rotifers and we also have the choice of freshwater copepods and daphnia for freshwater tank owners. Pair this with the Live Algae Kits and you have your own mini eco-system set up in your own home, saving a lot of money in the long run!
4. Hatch some Live Food eggs
One of the most fun DIY projects we have is to hatch your own live food eggs. Choose from a variety of species including; Daphnia Eggs, Fairy Shrimp Eggs, Clam Shrimp Eggs or our new Triops (tadpole shrimp) eggs! You can hatch the eggs using our Artemia Bottle Top, which allows you to use any plastic bottle of choice and attach this component. From there, you can add the water, live food eggs and follow the instructions of the critters you chose. This bottle top was invented for Brine Shrimp Hatching but is also very effective for other live foods too!
5. Clean your tank water with Vibrant
