Use this growing media for ensuring your starter culture has all the right nutrients and minerals, Artificial Daphnia medium: ADaM (Aachener Daphnien Medium)
We grow our Daphnia in artificial medium. The original recipe for the medium was developed by Klüttgen, B., Dülmer U., Engels, M. & Ratte H. T. 1994. ADaM, an artificial freshwater for the culture of zooplankton.
Our experience has been very good with this medium culturing Daphnia Simocephalus Exspinosus, pulex, longispina, galeata and hyalina, as well as hybrids of galeata × hyalina. The inventors of the medium tested it successfully for other cladocerans species as well.
If you have problems culturing Daphnia clones or other cladocerans in this medium, try to add some natural water (lake, stream, spring water). Adding 20% spring water we had good experience with clones which were tricky to keep otherwise.
Directions for use:
100ml goes into 20L (chlorine free) water.
