Strains

When ordering the Freshwater Algae Culture Starter Kit you have a choice between the below strains:

Chlorella

Chlorella vulgaris a freshwater genus of single-cell green algae. It is spherical, about 2 to 10μm in diameter, and does not have flagella. Furthermore, through photosynthesis, it multiplies rapidly. Therefore, it only requires carbon dioxide, water, sunlight, and a few minerals to reproduce.

Chlamydomonas

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a green microalga used as a scientific model organism and has many biotechnological applications.

A recent study has shown that it also has the capacity to nutritionally rival Chlorella and Spirulina.

It has a great amino- and fatty acid profile and is especially high in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). C. reinhardtii . This strain contains more Selenium and has relatively high concentrations of chlorophyll (a + b) and total carotenoids compared to the current algal superfood market leaders.

 Haematococcus

Haematococcus pulvialis, a green freshwater microalga, is one of the main producers of natural astaxanthin (pink carotenoid), the most powerful antioxidant known to man. Astaxanthin is what gives salmon and trout their pinkish colour and will promote the health and colouration of your aquarium fish and crustaceans.
