Stackable Sieves for Harvesting

$54.67$72.82

Aquatic Live Food supply excellent tools at great prices, good quality and the most variety available.

Construction:

These are made 90mm wide diameter by 100mm high. Made with Australian Standards grade PVC material. Laboratory grade polyester mesh screen. These will hold out under extreme use in the laboratory and prolonged exposure to the outdoors in the UV and saltwater environment. Also they are impervious to chemicals like bleach, chlorine etc.

Some of the many uses of sieves:
When doing water changes make sure you run your waist water through on of our sieves so you capture and save all your copepods in your marine aquarium before discarding water.

Culturing Rotifers and Copepods. Start by pouring your culture water (i.e. rotifers) through the sieve. Then rinse the organisms with water with the same parameters as your culture water into a smaller container, so you end up with a denser culture. Feed them directly to your corals and fish fry.

There is no manufactured food that is better than live food for your aquarium. Tools like this sieve allow you to save time and money on expensive foods by culturing your own live food. These sieves can be used for saltwater or freshwater.

We ourselves use stackable sieves as a way to separate adult and juvenile aquaria for university projects as it helps ensure consistency of feeding trial outcomes. As well as not having to clean up after the shedding of exoskeletons as the critter grows.

We can see there is also a need for these stackable sieves amongst the growing number of people breeding fish, shrimp, shellfish and many other things. Additionally, if space for many different cultures is difficult you can minimise the types of feed by sieving out juvenile zooplankton like Rotifers, Copepods, Daphnia, Brine shrimp, Amphipods, Clam shrimp, Mysis shrimp, Salp’s, Cladocerans and many others.

Common Micron Sizes:

  • 10 micron – Mainly used for Diatoms
  • 50 micron – Mainly used for Rotifers
  • 75 micron – Used for newly hatched brine shrimp
  • 150 micron – Used for juvenile brine shrimp and vinegar eels
  • 350 micron – Used for adult Harpacticoida copepods
  • 400 micron – Used for sub-adult brine shrimp
  • 520 micron – Used for adult brine shrimp

Available in the following sizes:

10 | 37 | 43 | 50 | 100 | 150 | 250 | 350 | 500 | 600 | 800

Why Using a Sieve is Important

Do you have 1 x 10um and 1 x 50um sieves?

If you have more than one culture you will need two sets; one for both rotifers & copepods.

By using a separate set for each will keep the cultures clean. The finer one will be used for the instar pods and juvenile rotifers, so you don’t waste the young, especially when doing water changes. You will be surprised at what will be found when using the 10um sieves!

We have found in samples sent here for testing ciliates, nematodes, micro-worms, and many other contaminates. These are competing for the food (algae/ phytoplankton) that you are putting in to feed the copepods or rotifers that you want as food for fry or mandarin fish, seahorses, pipefish. So, it is important to use a sieve regularly to keep the water clear of these contaminates.

Note:

It is very important to also sterilise your stackable sieves so that they are clean when separating your cultures from contaminates.

The overall use and sterilising of your sieves are essential for the health of your cultures.
