Sterile Algae Culture Media is for growing phytoplankton. Firstly, this is sterilised seawater and culture nutrients and trace elements premixed and ready for you to use.

Secondly, this product is bacteria, virus, pathogen, ciliate, ameba, and dino-free, which is important.

Furthermore, the filtration, autoclave, UV and ozone treatments ensure our media is lab-ready.

Contamination causes your cultures to crash in 97% of cultures. After a number of requests for premade/ premixed algae culture media, we now provide our customers with the same media we use here.

Ingredients of Sterile Algae Culture Media:

Marine media

• Seawater (filtered and sterilized through various processes)
• F/2+ nutrients (Guillard’s Formula)

Diatom media

• Seawater (filtered and sterilized through various processes)
• F/2+ nutrients (Guillard’s Formula)
• Sodium metasilicate

Freshwater media

• reverse osmosis (R.O.) water (sterilised)
• MLA nutrients

Method:

Please see below details of how we create this Sterile Algae Culture Media:

• Firstly, we make up this media from seawater by filtering it down to 0.35um, which removes solids
• Secondly, we pass the media through UV sterilisation and ozone sterilisation, then we autoclave it at 121°C
• Thirdly, after cooling, we add sterile  F/2+ nutrient concentrate
• Finally, We add filtered sodium metasilicate (silica) solution along with the F/2+

Note:

We make freshwater media by using R.O. water, autoclaved at 121°C and sterile 3 part MLA nutrient concentrate.

Furthermore, our algae culturing media is made up weekly in small batches to ensure the freshness of the product.
