Description
Learn how to successfully introduce the more sensitive aquarium items through two easy acclimation methods.
Types of acclimation % water addition and the drip method.
What is acclimating in the aquarium environment?
Acclimation is the process of slowly and gradually adjusting the water parameters of the water the new arrival came into the water parameters of where the new live item will now reside. Your tank waters chemical makeup is gradually introduced to the container housing new live goods at a controlled rate. The acclimation process is complete when equilibrium is reached (where the temporary container housing new live goods shares the same water chemistry and parameters as your aquarium) and your new arrival appears adjusted to these conditions. Remember that different species of live goods will have varying levels of tolerance, different methodologies are required to control the rate of change experienced during the acclimation process.
The floating bag method of acclimation is where aquarium water is added to the floating bag in 10% increments it is generally considered a broad approach, compared to the drip method of acclimation which is a more precise approach.
What is drip acclimation?
The drip method of acclimation, or drip acclimation, introduces aquarium water at a controlled rate of drops per second or longer if needed. This precision control greatly minimizes stress on new arrivals. Drip acclimation generally involves a siphon device and a method of regulating aquarium water entering the container housing new live goods. Aquarium water is introduced at a rate of about 2-4 drips per second. In the past, drip acclimation devices were handmade and employed mostly by experienced reef aquarium hobbyists. However, this “advanced” technique of acclimation can be enjoyed by hobbyist of all levels thanks to the availability of convenient, commercial drip acclimation devices.
Drip Acclimation Kit
Our simple to use drip acclimation system is an incredible deal. Our acclimation kit is a definite must-have item. A small purchase can help enhance the survival rate of your valuable new aquarium live item. This micro-adjustable drip acclimation system gradually allows the equalizing of water parameters to greatly reduce the stress and shock to the item. Simply hook glass U tube onto aquarium rim and start the siphon. Regulate the volume of water entering the acclimation container with convenient plastic flow control valve.
