Ultimate Reef Mix contains 4 types of copepods, L strain rotifers, SS strain rotifers, Red copepods, Aussie fairy shrimp, seed shrimp and our marine MicroMagic 4 species of phytoplankton all mixed up in one bottle you will get a all round live food ideal for your reef tank in one bottle. Copepods, these are found naturally in your aquarium which arrive on live rock, they are a similar size to newly hatched brine shrimp and are an excellent food source for pipefish, seahorses, mandarin fish, dragonets etc, all of which eat these at a steady rate.
The L strain rotifers marine rotifers, are 1/3 rd of the size of newly hatched brine shrimp. The SS strain is way smaller. They have been reared on live phytoplankton to ensure the best nutritional value they are an excellent food source for many marine animals including, hard corals, seahorses, shrimps etc.
Once received they must be acclimated to your aquarium water parameters as soon as possible. Replenishing your zooplankton; then add them while the lights are off so as to allow them time to find hiding places and homes. Once in your tank they will add to the critter population until eaten will survive in a refugium. A valuable addition to the marine reef tank one with many benefits. As a treat or coral feed; acclimate to your tanks water parameters as soon as possible and use a long pipette or coral feeder as needed.
If you water change your system regularly you will give these a good chance of survival. They will feed on phytoplankton, detritus, and waste food so they are of great benefit to your reef system. Acclimate this as you would any of your new fish or corals.
Storage: If you plan on feeding the mix over a number of days, they can be kept in the refrigerator in a 50% larger bottle than they came in. Add the extra water from your tank the lid must be opened to allow oxygen exchange (live algae) and critters to breathe. They will survive 5-7 days in the fridge. They will consume the phyto while in the bottle.
